GENESEE REGION ASSOCIATION
Travel league rules guide
2009-2010
1. Unless otherwise specified, rules will be as governed by the
USBC.
2. Bowlers will qualify by being sanctioned through USBC in their
home Youth League.
Bowlers must be sanctioned by the Genesee Region USBC. Each Center
will establish their own eligibility rules for participation on
the team. Any sanctioned Jr. Bowler in Genesee Region USBC may
bowl on any Travel League team for their home Center.
3. Handicap will be based on 90% of the difference between the
bowler's average and 200.
Example: 150 average bowler will have 45 pins handicap (200 -
45 = 50 x 90% = 45 pins)
4. League scoring will be a 21 point system (7 points/game). Each
bowler on a team will be matched against the corresponding bowler
on the other team, with the winner of each individual match being
awarded one point. Two points will be awarded to the higher team
total for each game. All scores will be with handicap.
5. There will be an 11 week schedule beginning October 11, 2009,
ending March 7, 2010 including one position round, and the season
ending banquet/no tap tournament.
6. A legal team is 3 regulars or subs.
7. Bowling fees will be $8.00 per bowler per session. The lanes
will receive $6.50 and the league treasury will receive $1.50.
8. Your team will be responsible to pay all fees including any
absent bowler or your team forfeits.
9. Each team will elect a team captain, who will be responsible
for representing the team at meetings and for collecting bowling
fees each week and remitting them to Coach Fluker from Batavia.
Each team must also have an adult representative present at each
league session that will be responsible for the team's behavior.
10. The team captain will also be responsible for listing the
order of team members on the score sheet and summary sheet. The
team scheduled to bowl on the odd numbered lane must list their
lineup first. Once the lineup is in it stays in. No changing lineups
during match play.
11. Starting time for the league will be 1 pm Sundays,, with
10 minutes of practice prior to starting.
12. A score for a missing bowler will be the lowest average on
the opposing team minus 10 pins.
Handicap will be based on the average, not the blind score.
13. The bowling establishment where the league is bowling must
have a Jr. League coach or instructor present at all times during
league play.
14. Hats may be worn at league sessions as long as they stay
on your head! If a hat is thrown or removed in frustration, you
will be requested to keep it off! Bowlers are encouraged to wear
bowling shirts if provided by their home lanes. Those wearing
inappropriate shirts (obscene, containing swear words, or otherwise
as determined by the league advisor) will not be allowed to bowl.
Pants need to be worn properly, underwear not hanging out. Remember
you are representing your Bowling Center.
15. The wearing of or listening to head phones or like devices
is not permitted.
16. No alcoholic beverages or smoking will be allowed in the
area adjacent to the lanes during Travel League sessions. No food
or beverages are allowed to be brought in for consumption by the
bowlers or spectators during any league session.
17. Requests for postponement of a match must be made one day
prior to the match, except for emergency situations. Requests
are to be made directly to one of the league advisors, whose decision
shall be final. If a postponement is not granted, and the team
does not show up, they will forfeit all points and have no opportunity
to bowl for average for that match. In a case of forfeiture the
team bowling will go against their own individual average minus
20 points. The league advisor will notify opposing team for their
choice of changing their schedule or bowling unopposed. Postponed
matches shall be made up prior to the next regularly scheduled
travel league session in the Center previously determined.
18. Coaching of bowlers is permitted, but not in the settee area,
nor while they are bowling, such as to delay the game.
19. Score keeping is to be done by the bowlers, and the teams
shall share those duties. The captains shall record the scores
on the summary sheets, and sign the summary sheet at the end of
each session. Any changes to scores as a result of checking must
be approved by both captains.
20. Pizza and soda will be provided for the bowlers by the host
Center after each session. Make sure all the bowlers have a chance
to get some pizza & soda before going back for seconds! And
bowlers need to pick up after eating, don't leave it for the lanes
manager to do!
21. Any inclement weather at the host center that will require
a cancellation, must be phoned in to Tom Fluker at least one hour
in advance so all centers involved have plenty of notice. I will
then call all youth advisors for each center using phone #’s
listed below. If there are other #’s that should be used,
let me know.
